Explore the centre of Nairobi during this city tour, with its ca. 3 million inhabitants the biggest city in Kenya. You will see the House of Parliament, the National Museum as well as the snake park.
Nairobi is located in the south of Kenya at the river Athi. Situated on an average height of 1.624 above sea level, it is one of the highest located capitals in Africa. It is the economical and communicational centre of the country and stands out in the African comparison with a high rate of growth.
Nairobi was built from a railway journal and provision storage which was created by the British administration for Uganda in 1896 in a marshy area in the centre of Kenya. A year earlier, the construction of the railway line had begun in Mombasa which should connect the coast with Uganda. The place in the highland was populated by Massai and Kikuyu and was chosen for the railway journal due to the surrounding rivers and the opportune climate. In 1899 the administration of Uganda Railways displaced their headquarters to Nairobi, in the same year also the administration of the Ukamba province moved from Machakos to Nairobi. In 1907, Nairobi became the capital of the British protectorate East Africa (the name of the later colony Kenya until 1920) and replaced Mombasa.
During this ca. 2-hour city tour through the centre of Nairobi you will visit the House of Parliament, the National Museum and the snake park.
