Climate & Travel Season

The average clímate in Namibia can be called hot and dry, but there are huge differences between the single regions:
In the Namib Desert it rarely rains, there is a warm and strong wind during the whole year. Even in winter temperatures are often up to 25° C and more. In the summer months of December and January temperatures normally rise over 30° C, while they can fall off to the freeze point at night in the colder months of July and August and then rise again to f 25° C during daytime.

It is the same at Kalahari but here it rains more frequently than at the Namib even though still rarely, what's typical for deserts.

The Caprivi strip is affected by frequent rain falls which have developed a large river system and a tropical jungle abundantly covered with vegetation. In contrast to other regions of the country, the humidity here is very high.

The Atlantic Coast is affected by the cold Benuela stream which regularly causes a thick and lasting fog at ground level. Temperatures in the summer are confortably cool but in the winter months occasionally sensitively cold.

The largest part of Namibia is located in the tropical summer rain region with irregular but partly very strong rain falls between November and Apirl. The utmost south of the country lies in the winter rain region so that rain falls if any occur in the months of June and July.
The best travel season is the months of March till October with their comfortable temperatures between 22° and 30° C according to the region. Additionally it is dry during this time.

Namibia can be visited the whole year round. Please note that the seasons are reversed, when it's winter in Europe, it's summer in Namibia and the other way round. According to this, the days are shorter or longer.

Winter, Mai till September, is the driest season and well suitable for watching the animals as water holes are highly frequented. The grass is dry and low

In October, spring is starting, days become longer and warmer.

From December till March precipitation rate is the highest. But this doesn't mean that it is raining all the time. Rain, if falling, appears normally in the evenings and ends after a little while. Such a downpour is great to watch and also quite an experience. Shortly afterwards you will again see the sun or the moon. Temperatures are summerly high. Lots of plants are in their anthesis. You will have fun on your game drives as there are lots of cubs to watch.
